Course Structure and Content

The ‘English Enrichment Programme’ is based on the ‘Cutting Edge’ series of Language learning materials. It provides the students with an intensive, yet enjoyable learning experience. To supplement the key course material, our teachers use an extensive library of current teaching materials which further enhances the students’ learning experience.

Prior to joining any of our classes, students will have to sit for a placement test so that the appropriate level of study may be assigned to them. Our courses progress through ten levels of academic study from ‘Beginner 1’ to ‘Upper-Intermediate 2’. Within each level, students are formally tested twice per month in order to provide a system of monitoring students’ progress and eligibility for progression to the next level of study.

The table below indicates the levels that are offered under the full-time English Programme.

The Classes

Classroom environment in The Language Institute

Our students attend 2 two-hour classes daily. In addition to these daily four-hour intensive study period students are encouraged to engage in autonomous learning by the use of our interactive learning facilities. In addition, we also have the Language Lounge activities which include lessons on presentation skills, writing workshops, and listening and speaking activities which are enriching experiences for students.

Students are to complete daily homework assignments. In a typical lesson set-up, students are introduced to key language points in real world contexts. These language points are then developed through carefully structured practice sessions in which the students may be involved in group, pair, or individual work. A thirty-minute break will be a transition phase between a change of classrooms and teachers for the second lesson.

We have two sessions in a day and within the two sessions there are two classes. Our classes run during the week from Monday to Friday.

The Teachers

All our teachers are highly qualified and experienced in English language teaching. A system of ongoing training takes place throughout the year, ensuring that high standards are maintained. We employ a mixture of native speakers from countries such as the UK, Australia, New Zealand, America and Canada. And of course, we have Malaysian teachers as well. This mixture ensures that the students are exposed to the widest possible range of accents and provides them with the chance to work with many different teachers.

Certificate Awarded

At the end of the programme, students will be awarded ‘Certificate of Attendance’ by The Language Institute for the highest level completed.
